FARLEY -- Virginia Anna Lockhart Zellner Farley, August 30, 1920 - July 16, 2009. Virginia was born in Ashfork, AZ one of seven children. Abandoned by their mother at an early age, the children were raised in an Odd Fellows Orphanage in Safford, AZ because their father was a ranch foreman on the Arizona desert where there were no schools. Virginia attended what is now the University of Northern Arizona in Flagstaff until she married. She later finished her teaching degree at Arizona State University in Tempe and continued pursuit of her education obtaining a Master's Degree plus 30 hours. She taught at John Adams in the 1960s and junior high school in Phoenix and Scottsdale for many years until she left Arizona to marry John W. Farley. While living in Michigan she became a social worker for the State of Michigan working with mentally disabled adults, serving in the children's unit and finally becoming Volunteer Coordinator. She received a commendation for outstanding service from the Governor of Michigan. She and John relocated to Albuquerque upon retiring in 1983 where they lived until moving to Arvada, CO in 2006. Virginia was a devout Christian and served her Lord and Savior in many leadership capacities in her churches. When she moved to Colorado she continued to serve by teaching Bible Study and by opening Sunday services at her independent living facility to assist the volunteer pastor. Virginia was a dynamic woman who was admired by and an inspiration to everyone with whom she came into contact. It is impossible to know how many young people she helped through difficult times. She particularly loved children, reached out to everyone and didn't know a stranger. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her husband, John, preceded her in death on July 2, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Dick, Prime, John and Twain; a sister, Helen Williams; her son, Wade Zellner; and granddaughter, Jami Jacobson. She is survived by her daughter, Gloria Jacobson (Ed) of Colorado; sister, Wilma Arthur of Oregon; grandchildren, Randy Zellner (Amanda) and Melissa Zellner of Albuquerque; great-granddaughter, Jillian Rodriquez; step-great-granddaughters, Mikayla and Keana, all of Albuquerque; step-daughter, Veronica Pelosi of New Jersey; many nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and son's widow, Elaine Zellner of Clovis. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Agape Hospice Healthcare, whose team provided such loving, kind and expert care to both Virginia and John. 6041 South Syracuse Way, Suite 220, Greenwood Village, CO 80111 or to the charity of your choice.
