METTS -- Joseph Dudley Metts, age 95, passed peacefully from this life at his Albuquerque home on May 7, 2009. Born in Alma, Nebraska, and raised in Oberlin, Kansas, he was transferred from Wichita to Albuquerque in 1946, by the Fox Vliet Drug Co., where he rose to the position of vice president and general manager of the Albuquerque branch, and from which he retired after 35 years. During WWII, he served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard, stationed in Honolulu and St. Louis. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alma Brown Metts. He is survived by Betty Metts, his wife of 33 years, and her son Jeff McCarty of Albuquerque; his children JoAnne Metts, Albuquerque, Richard Metts and wife Queue, Albuquerque, and Melissa Valdez and husband Jim, Littleton, CO; his grandchildren Nicole Valdez Mayoros, Michael Valdez, and Scott Metts; and great-grandchildren Marissa and Isabella Mayoros. Memorial Services are private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the American Heart Association.
