MCGAUGHEY -- Violet Virginia McGaughey, former resident of Edgewood, New Mexico, died peacefully on April 26, 2009 in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Cremation has taken place and the cremains will be returned to New Mexico on May 9, 2009. Violet is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Linda Jean Swinney and husband, William Joseph Swinney of Amarillo, Texas, her son Freddie Robert Jackson and wife, Patricia Ann Jackson of Ardmore, Oklahoma. Violet was born on December 10, 1919, on the mountain, Buck Hill, North Carolina. She was the daughter of David W. Johnson and Ada Taylor Johnson. She married Fred Oakley Jackson on January 29, 1938, on Buck Hill and they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1944 where she remained until moving to Edgewood, New Mexico. Fred preceded her in death on January 8, 1954. She later married Airman First Class John Earl McGaughey on April 15, 1955. He preceded her in death on April 10, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her son, Jackie Wayne Jackson; brothers, Emmett W. Johnson, David L. Johnson, Tim Allen Johnson, and Wendell (Jack) Johnson, sisters, Martha Jane Johnson and Allie N. Carpenter, and half-brother Dayton Ingram Violet is survived by her sister, Maude C. Wilcox and brother-in-law Willie of Morganton, North Carolina; brother Frank E. Johnson and sister-in-law Lorraine of Copalis, Washington, William Lee Johnson and sister-in-law Rita of Clearlake, Washington; her grandchildren, Lieutenant Commander Jack W. Jackson and his wife Carin Jackson of Kodiak, Alaska, Gary D. Jackson of Stockbridge, Georgia, Jeff W. Swinney and wife Kami of Fort Worth, Texas, William G. Swinney and wife Terry of Grapevine, Texas, Melissa Ann Lewis of Stockbridge, Georgia. She is also survived by 9 great grandchildren, Petty Officer Lee Wayne Jackson of Novato, California, Bailey Dawn Swinney of Fort Worth, Texas, Ryan Michael Swinney of Fort Worth, Texas, Lauren Alexander Swinney, Audrey Hope Swinney and Master William Don Swinney, all of Grapevine, Texas, Master James Anthony Daino, III, Miss Madelyn Ashton Lewis of Stockbridge, Georgia, and Master Jacob Wayne Swinney of Fort Worth, Texas. She is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces scattered throughout the United States. Violet was a witty and charming woman with many talents. She lived her life to the fullest, traveling with her beloved husband John in their RV throughout the United States, including a trip to the northern wilderness of Alaska. She especially loved her rocks, no matter where she was, she always found interesting and wonderful rocks that she collected and took home or placed in her small apartment while she lived in Ardmore. She was a long-time member of the Bernalillo County Extension Club. Violet loved her garden and always had something wonderful to eat from that garden; she loved to play her guitar, sing with her church and a great group of friends at the Edgewood Senior Center.
