SCHULZ -- Carl Francis Schulz, age 91, peacefully passed away April 25, 2009 while in a nursing facility where he had been due to serious, multiple infections. He was born October 21, 1917 in Denver CO, son of Adolph and Elsie. Moving to Albuquerque in the early 1920's, he has been a resident ever since except for 10 years, just before and after WW II, when he, his wife (Betty) and son lived in Los Angeles. In his early years he graduated from Albuquerque High School, sang in the Albuquerque Boys Choir when it was founded, and hopped freight trains to ride into town to school. As father, he instilled some of those favorite things in his son, Carl Jr., such singing in the Albuquerque Boys Choir (in the '50s) and love of railroads (and Lionel trains). He loved hunting and fishing and was active supporting his son and others in Boy Scouts, taking them on many campouts. Once his son was on his own, Carl married Frances Carter, who was his wife for 47 years, until passing in 2006. With her he was involved in many of her charitable activities and numerous travels around the country and world. He was a plumber since WW II (plumbing the 1st 60+ homes in Rio Rancho), a member of Local 412, a Mason (Zia Daylight Lodge #77 AF&AM) , and a member of the American Legion. Carl is survived by his son, Carl Jr. and spouse Gloria now resident in Bernalillo, three grandchildren Richard Schulz, Antonia Todd and Carla Oyster plus great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; his sister Jeannette Hagood and numerous nieces and nephews, the Carter family in California. Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 10:00a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 27, 2009 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at French Mortuary, Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Rd.
