VORT -- Maurice "Mo" Vort, 79, passed away surrounded by family on Friday, April 3, 2009. Born in Hackensack, NJ, Maurice met his wife of 45 years, Mona, on the ice rink in Madison Square Garden in New York City. Maurice and Mona enjoyed many other activities together, including sailing, skiing, tennis, golf, reading, and watching movies. Maurice worked as an Account Manager for Jersey Paper, developing lifelong relationships with many of his clients. Later, Maurice took great pleasure coaching high school tennis with his wife. Maurice was also a published writer, specializing in short stories and poetry, winning the New School for Writing Short Story Award. Maurice is survived by his wife, Mona; daughter Kelle Vort; daughter Alison Vort Halasz and her husband Andrew; sisters Joan Mate and her husband Harold, and Carol Gottlieb; his best friend Dr. Eugene Sherman; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. In accordance with Maurice's wishes, cremation has taken place.
