Y'BARRA -- Gilbert J. Y'Barra, born July 18, 1938 in Mills, NM, passed away April 1, 2009. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Rosie; his children, Gilbert A. Y'Barra, Virginia Salas, Christine Najera, Yvette Y'Barra, Tater Ortiz, and Deborah Ortiz; his grandchildren, Anthony, Gabriel, Andrea, Noah, Mariana, Isaac, Alex, Ashley, and Jonathan. Gilbert was preceded in death by his first wife in 1994 and his grandson Jacob Najera in 2008. Gilbert owned and operated Y'Barra Concrete, since 1981. He was very devoted to his company. During his time as a business owner he also did work with Ralee & Vantage Homes as a sub contractor, where he received an award for thirty years of service. Over the years, he played a big part in the development and growth of Albuquerque, Rio Rancho and the surrounding areas. Gilbert was a very well known and much loved man, everyone knew his name. On many occasions he provided young men with the skills they needed to better themselves and improve their lives. He was often approached and thanked for all of the support and direction he provided the young men that had worked for him. He truly had a big heart, giving and doing for anyone in need, he couldn't say no. Gilbert also had a great love for traveling and exploring new places. He and his family traveled many places in the States and abroad. One of his favorite places was Alaska, he made three trips in three years. Words alone will never express all that he meant to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed. A Rosary will be recited on Monday, April 6, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas location, and funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 9:00 a.m., at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 11401 Indian School NE.
