MCNALLY -- Joan Catherine McNally, 79, a resident of Sandia Springs in Rio Rancho, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2009. Joan was born April 27, 1929 the daughter of Bernard and Johanna Foley Daly in Brooklyn, New York. She was joyfully married John McNally on May 7, 1950. Joan loved to travel and read, particularly Sherlock Holmes. Upon arriving in London she insisted to her husband that their first stop had to be #221 Baker Street! In her younger years, Joan loved to dance and persuaded her son on a recent New Year's Eve to take her dancing one more time where she wore him out on the dance floor. She was a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Altar/Rosary Society; the Felicians; Catholic Daughters of America; and the V.F.W. Auxiliary, Post #5890. In addition to traveling and reading, Joan (and John prior to his death) was a volunteer at St. Felix Pantry, as well as at her parish church and in her community. While a resident of Sandia Springs, Joan made many friends, and was enjoyed by the staff. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John McNally; and daughter, Patricia McNally Gable. Joan is survived by her son, Stephen McNally and wife Beth of Reston, Virginia; nephew, John Ward and wife Linda, and their children of Rio Rancho; and her brother-in-law, Frank McNally. The Rosary will be recited on Friday, March 20, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with the Celebration of the Mass following at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Rd., Rio Rancho.
