TOMASZEWSKI -- Laura Marian Tomaszewski, age 88, peacefully passed away Saturday, February 28, 2009. A native of Detroit, MI, Laura married her high school sweetheart, Francis Xavier "Frank" Tomaszewski in 1944, and together they shared many an adventure until his death in 1998. She was a proud veteran, having served as a WAC during WWII. Frank's work brought them to Albuquerque in 1956 and they were both immediately "enchanted." They loved the high desert, most especially the cabin they built in the Pecos wilderness. They were kids again every time they could jump in their pickup truck and head for the hills. She was retired from her job at the University of New Mexico Medical/Legal Bookstore, work that gave her much satisfaction for many years. Laura is survived by her five children, Frank Tomaszewski and his wife, Kazuko, of Auburn, WA, Mary Lynn McGuire and her husband, Joe, of Albuquerque, Katherine Mitchell of Portland, OR, Mark Tomaszewski and Melody Stapleton, both of Albuquerque. She was Grandma to Kevin, Kristie, Mark, Brian, Erin, Sidney, Hillary and Allison; and in more recent years enjoyed the arrivals of eight great-grandchildren, Ryan, Ichiro, Kadin, Vivian, Rumi, Yayoi, Alexa and Xavier. Also surviving are one sister, Camille Gutowski of Detroit, MI; and one brother, Anthony "Ted" Gutowski of Redford, MI. Laura was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease seven years ago. While she was not able to enjoy the sharing of memories that comes with old age, she was able to live in the moment with contentment and grace. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, March 5, 2009, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, March 6, 2009, 8:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church, 2621 Vermont NE. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Relatives and friends may visit the family Thursday, March 5, 2009, 6:00 p.m. until the Rosary. For those that desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, P.O. Box 30846, Albuquerque, NM 87190.
