MURRAY -- Michael M. Murray passed on peacefully in his sleep on February 3, 2009. He was born on April 18, 1926 in Cortland, NY. Mike joined the Navy and served during WWII, then married his high school sweetheart, Clarabelle Terpenning in Rhinebeck, NY in 1945. After the war, he joined the Army Air Corps, which became the US Air Force. He served all over the world, and then retired to NM after 22 years of active duty. A well respected electronics technician, he worked on numerous projects on Sandia Base and in Los Alamos. An avid photographer, he owned some of the very first 35mm cameras and documented family picnics, camping trips and holidays throughout the Pacific, Europe and the US. The past five years were spent scanning and cataloging more than 5,000 photos of the Murray family, ranging from the late 1800s to present. He is survived by his wife Clarabelle: sister Annan Allen (Ike); sister-in-law Britta Murray; brother Jonathan Murray (Esther); children Matthew M. Murray, Cecelia M. Rosales (Oscar), Diane M. Lightwood (George), and Stephen A. Murray (Marti). He has five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews. Mike chose to donate his body for medical research. Services will be held at Central United Methodist Church, 201 University Ave. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87106 on Sunday, March 29, 2009 at 2 p.m., after his remains return to NM. Interment will be in Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that you do something special with family or friends and document it in photos, or make a donation to Central UM Church or to an organization of your choice in Mike's name.
