MONTOYA -- Juan (John) Montoya, age 98, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and godfather, was called home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, February 4, 2008, while surrounded by his loving family. John was born on November 15, 1910 in Madrid, NM to the late Florencita and Antonio Montoya. John lived in the North Valley for many years, where he was an active parishioner of St. Therese Church, an usher, and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was currently a parishioner of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Senior Group. John was hard worker always providing for his family, he was employed at Creamland Quality Checked Dairies, General Electric, and the Santa Fe Rail Road. John will always be fondly remembered as a quiet man with an increditable memory, loving, caring, generous, and always devoted to his family and friends. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Angelica Baca; and a son-in-law, Tom Droelle. John is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Irene Montoya; her wonderful children who he was so proud of, Fred Montoya and wife Grace, Vicky Baca and husband Henry, Vera Gurule and Lidio Holguin, Gloria Droelle, Mary Lou Trias, Pedro Trias, Rhonda Berry, and Angelita Cazares; eleven grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 58 godchildren; and numerous other loving family members and a host of friends. John will truly be missed by all those whose hearts he touched. Visitations will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:00 a.m. also at the Church, with his godson and nephew, Msgr. Richard Olona as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Marvin Archibeque, Thomas Droelle, Jr., Ronald Baca, Alex Monteagudo, Carl Pino, Ignacio Archibeque, Charles Alderete, and Dennis Olona. Honorary bearers will be Michael Montoya, Robert Miera, and Edward Gurule. At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Queen of Heaven Senior Group, c/o Deacon Pilar Garcia, 5311 Phoenix Ave., NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110.
