JARAMILLO -- Maria Crucita Jaramillo (Cruz), age 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 1, 2009. Crucita was born in Villanueva, New Mexico to Julian Prada and Margarita Jacoby-Prada. She was a long-time resident of Belen, N.M. and most recently a resident of Albuquerque Rehabilitation Center. Crucita was raised at her family's farm in Villanueva, NM where she attended Catholic school and helped her family during the Great Depression. Crucita was proud of her involvement in the stair development of Carlsbad Caverns for the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1940s. She later served as a Harvey Girl at La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe, NM. She married Miguel "Mike" Jaramillo on November 10, 1941. After living in Vaughn, NM, the Jaramillo family moved to Belen in 1962, where Crucita was employed by the Belen Consolidated School District as the head cook for the Belen Junior High School. Crucita retired in 1974. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, crocheting, and making ceramics. Crucita was a long-time member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her her husband of 56 years, Miguel "Mike" Jaramillo and daughter, Patsy Baca. Crucita is survived by a daughter, Ermelinda Baca (husband, Anthony); a son, Michael Jaramillo (wife, Kathy); grandchildren, Beverly Baca (Albuquerque), Jaqueline Moya (husband, Ray of Chilili), Lindsay Baca (Los Angeles, CA), Sidney Olivas (husband, Chris of Los Lunas), Elyssa Bland (husband, Jacob of Belen), Margaret Shawver (husband, Jeremy of Los Lunas), Cynthia Chavez (husband, Juan of Corvallis, OR); great-grand children, Matthew Baca (Albuquerque), Patricia Lujan (Albuquerque), Marcos, Lucas, and Amber Moya (Chilili, NM), Haleigh Little and Lucas Bland (Belen), Melina Olivas (Los Lunas), and Gracie and Jericho Shawver (Los Lunas). She is also survived by a great-great-grandchild, Vincent Sanchez (Albuquerque). A visitation will he held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, January 5, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited on at 7:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 11:00a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Cemetery. Urnbearers will be Crucita's granddaughters, Lindsay Baca, Sidney Olivas, Elyssa Bland, Margaret Shawver, and Cynthia Chavez, and great-grandsons, Matthew Baca and Marcos Moya.
