ZANNER -- Frank John Zanner, born in Saginaw Michigan on the 13th of July, 1940, passed away at his home in Sandia Park, NM on the 4th of December, 2008. Always inquisitive with an interest in science and engineering, Frank sought out higher education at General Motors Institute of Technology, and later Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, where he received a PhD in Pyro-Metallurgical Engineering with honors and met his wife-to-be Mary Ann, who was attending the neighboring Russell Sage College at the time. After a year of living and working in Scotland, Frank and Mary Ann lived in Houston, Texas until an opportunity with Sandia National Laboratories brought the family to Albuquerque, NM in 1970. Here he embarked on a fascinating and accomplished career spanning more than thirty years serving his nation, as well as industry, through science and engineering. During his storied career at Sandia, Frank received numerous distinguished awards on Sandia's behalf as well as recognition around the world as a visionary expert in the field of metallurgy. Frank's creativity and gumption was not limited to his career at Sandia. He amazed friends and family by conceiving of and executing inventive projects of monumental scope spanning multiple years, one of which was his beloved final home project nestled in the remote eastern foothills of the Sandia Mountains, where he and Mary Ann have spent over the last decade enjoying their lives together. When not enjoying the serenity of their property, Frank and Mary Ann traveled the globe enjoying many adventures. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Mary Ann, his daughter Jenny of Minneapolis, MN, his son Matt of Auburn, CA his brother James of Puyallup, WA, his sister Mary of Sedona, AZ, his two grandsons Seth and Aidan, many nieces and nephews, and his two Labrador Retrievers Sally and Missy.
