DUDERSTADT -- Robert F. Duderstadt, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend died at age 80 on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 after a brave battle with an ongoing illness and now rests safely in the arms of his Heavenly Father. Robert is survived by his loving wife, Laura of 57 years; children, Sheldon Duderstadt, Julie Howie and husband, Ray, Joyce Shaw and her husband Warren (who preceded Robert in death) and Valerie Linson and husband, David; 12 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren who loved him dearly, will miss him deeply and will cherish their memories of him forever. Robert was a family man who left a wonderful legacy of life, love, and laughter. He was a very kind man whose ability to quickly fill any room with laughter will never be forgotten. He was a man of his word and exuded a strength that was admired by many. He was truly a man who made a difference in those whose lives he touched and the friends he made throughout his lifetime. Robert served his country in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952 and received an honorary medal for rescuing a young boy from drowning during his service. He was a respected car salesman in Dayton, Ohio earning several Legion of Leaders awards and Hall of Honor. Robert moved his family from Dayton, OH to Albuquerque in 1968 to start the first Arby's franchise west of the Mississippi River. He was a Director of the New Mexico Restaurant Association during his many years as a restauranteur. He retired and sold his businesses in 1990. He had fervent love for opera and especially Andre Bocelli. Robert's latest joys included celebrating life with his wife and family, spending time at their home in Clearwater Beach, Florida and watching his great-grandchildren (who lovingly called him Papa) discover the world around the with such innocence. Services will be held Saturday, November 8, 2008, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel. A reception to follow service to celebrate Robert's life. Cremation to follow.
