ALLEN -- Davis A. Allen, age 81, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Monday, October 6, 2008, after a lengthy illness. Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1926, Davis grew up in Queens. Davis is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Patricia Anaya Allen, whom he met after moving here in 1955. Davis is also survived by his loving children, Angelica, and her children, Genevieve, Patrick and Irene; Kathleen and husband Rob Douangpanya and their son Quinn, Anastasia and her daughter Fiona, Matthew and his children Rebecca and Thomas and Alexander. Davis is also survived by his three sisters, Eileen and husband Bill Sieber, Mary and husband Buddy Abbruzzese and Theresa Allen, as well as many nephews and nieces, other family members and friends who loved and will miss him. Davis received his bachelor's degree from St. Joseph's College on the Rio Grande and his master's degree in urban studies at Northeastern University. He was one of the organizers of the first teachers' union in Albuquerque and retired from the Albuquerque Public Schools after teaching English and History for 25 years. Many of his former students remained in touch with him. He took great pride in being independent, respectful, faithful and living with integrity. Davis believed passionately in social and economic justice and instilled in his children a strong ethic of public service. His proudest accomplishment was providing for his family in the traditional adobe home he built in Albuquerque's North Valley where he and Patricia raised their five children. Davis and Patricia were league bowlers for many years and also avid bridge players. They enjoyed camping and fishing, traveled to every state, and visited many national parks and monuments. They shared their love of the outdoors and adventurous spirit with their children. Davis enjoyed world travel as well, but most loved visiting Ireland, the land of his ancestors. Davis had Irish as well as American citizenship and particularly enjoyed extended trips researching his family's history. His last years were spent enjoying the company of his wife, children and grandchildren. During his retirement, Davis was a regular volunteer for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He will be remembered with affection and respect by the people who were touched by his life. Memorial Services will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited on Friday, October 10, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society (c/o Ellen Guest, 1818 Coal Pl.
