ROOSE -- Walter R. Roose Jr., of Albuquerque, NM, passed away serenely at home on September 3, 2008. He is survived by Virginia, his wife of 60 years; by his sister, Shirley Hammerle, by his five children; eight grandchildren; and by five nieces and nephews. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in May 1942 and was wounded in action in March 1945. Despite the severe nature of his injury and long hospitalization, he later majored in U.S. History at Rollins College and was awarded a Carnegie Fellowship in teaching at Peabody and Vanderbilt Universities. He went on to enjoy a distinguished career as Reference Librarian, and was retired from Sandia in 1989. We rejoice in the knowledge of his continuing life. The Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September, 11, 2008 at 12 noon. Military Honors will be presented at Fairview Memorial Park, 700 Yale Blvd. S.E.
