BEXFIELD -- Mildred "Mickey" Bexfield, 88, of Albuquerque, NM died July 21, 2008 in hospice care at Goodwin House in Alexandria, VA. She was born in Gallup, NM, February 24, 1920 to Adolph M. and Jessie E. (Hartline) Johnson. After graduating from Gallup High School in 1937, the striking six-footer attended Stevens College in Missouri, and graduated from Drake University in Iowa in 1941 with a BA in political science and education. She was a member of Phi Theta Kappa honorary society and president of Chi Omega sorority. While working in the Chicago area, Mickey met the love of her life and her husband of 59 years, Frank W. ("Bill") Bexfield, who was a career Air Force officer. They moved frequently and lived in Reno, Washington D.C., London, Paris, the Philippines, Wiesbaden (Germany) and in numerous other US locations, from Spokane, WA, to Montgomery, AL. In retirement, they lived at Cochiti Lake, NM, for more than 20 years, until advised to move to a lower elevation for health reasons. Mildred enjoyed playing the piano, reading novels, keeping up with world events and, above all, she loved a good laugh. She spent the last five years in Alexandria near her son, Jim. Mickey was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her three children, James N. (Judy) Bexfield, Susan K. (Gary) Fedel, and Rebecca J. (Don) Tilley; eight grandchildren, David (Laura), Karen, Kathryn, Kelly (Dan), Nikki, Sean (Idali), Shannon and Sherri; and three great- grandchildren. Mickey will be buried with her husband at Santa Fe National Cemetery in her beloved New Mexico. A small Service will be held September 2, 2008 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS.org). The family would like to extend special thanks to the doctors and caregivers involved with Mrs. Bexfield's care during the past year.
