YIRKA -- Rosemary Theresa (Rozum) Yirka was born to eternal life on Wednesday morning, August 20, 2008 in the presence of her children. She left peacefully surrounded by love. She was born to Leo and Theresa Rozum on the plains of eastern South Dakota in Humbolt, Minnehaha County, June 10, 1931. She grew up on a farm, and in 1944 she moved with her family to Fort Meade, South Dakota where she attended St. Martin School and Spearfish College. She met and married Bernard in 1951. An enlistment in the Navy took the new couple to San Diego, California where they began their new life. They moved to the Albuquerque area in late 1957. Rosemary was an expert typist and worked for ACF, AEC and then established a successful insurance practice with Bernie. Her ability to make anyone feel at home and comfortable made her work with their clients a joy for her and for them. Many of their clients became life long friends. Rosemary had a zesty love for life and her family and those blessed enough to be in her circle of friends (which was ever widening) were the center of her life, especially her grandchildren. She was compassionate and caring to everyone and found something good in everyone she met. Rosemary possessed a deep quiet faith that propelled her to reach and embrace others. Many will remember her kindness, encouragement, support, generosity, and warmth. She retained a lively curiosity about everything and absorbed new information readily. She was a master gardener, an avid amateur golfer, passionate political advocate, enthusiastic cook, reader at Church, cultural enthusiast, but most importantly a good friend. There was always room at her table for one, two, or three more. You couldn't help but be lifted up in her presence; she was always a well spring of hope in the face of despair. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and her husband of 54 years. She leaves her beloved children, Christine and husband, Richard Sarti, Cathy Gulick, Patrick Yirka, and Mary Margaret and husband, Charles Baca; grandchildren, Jennifer, Paul and Miranda Gulick, and Amanda and husband, Jarrod McClanahan, Theresa and husband, Ryan Stopper, David and Emily Baca; and great-grandchild, Danielle McClanahan. She will be deeply missed by many. She once said that when she was gone that she hoped that she would be remembered as an Encourager. We love you. Vaya con dios!
