ZIERER -- John Paul Zierer, 84, a long time resident of Albuquerque, passed away on May 6, 2008, at the family home. John went to eternal love and peace. He joins his mother and father, brothers and sisters, and his beloved sons, Gregory and Johnny. John is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Consuelo; sons Mark and Daniel, by Mark's wife Desiree and Daniel's wife Teri, by his step granddaughter Beatrix Otwell, and by one brother Luke, 89, and by many nieces and nephews in Alabama and in North Carolina. John was born October 3, 1923 at St. Florian, Alabama. He attended Catholic school and served as an altar boy. John graduated from Albuquerque High School with enough credits to start UNM as a junior. He was an expert gardener and loved growing vegetables and flowers and his famous Christmas trees. John served in the Merchant Marines at the end of World War II, transferred to the Army for one year, and then served in the Air Force until his retirement in 1973. He served in Korea and Vietnam, Italy, Greece, Turkey and many other countries. John's family joined him in England, Okinawa and Spain. He retired with 20 years service from the Department of Energy. John and his wife served as Sacristans and Eucharistic ministers at Risen Savior Catholic Community. John attained 3rd and 4th degree with the Knights of Columbus.. He loved his family and his church. He will be remembered as a man of great integrity and honesty. Rosary will be recited at 7:00p.m in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services on Wyoming, on Friday, May 16, 2008. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:00a.m. at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd, NE, on Saturday, May 17, 2008. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tony Gallego, Naim Kassicieh, Ken Burke, Richard Ulibarri, Ray Carrillo, and Charles Padilla. Honorary pallbearers will be Christie O'Bryan, Anne Burke, Pat Kelly, 3rd Degree - Knights of Columbus, Albert Gonzales, Bob Slater, 4th Degree - Knights of Columbus, Tony Blaise, Louis Romero, George Casaus, Ellis and Tim Greenhill, Fred Apodaca, Joseph Anderson, Jessie Vaughn, Dan Marek, Anthony Archuleta, Sister Maria Louise, Sister Doria, and nieces and nephews of Alabama. The family wishes to thank Hospice De La Luz, especially Gerry, Footprints, and caregiver Anthony Archuleta, and their many friends for their support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's name to Hospice Del La Luz, Footprints, St. Martin of the Homeless, or to a charity of your choice.
