HOLLOWAY -- Nathaniel Lorenzo Holloway, Sr. Lt Col. USAF (ret.) "God Bless those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." Matthew 5:4 Nathaniel Lorenzo Holloway Sr. peacefully returned to his heavenly home on Monday, April 14, 2008. He was the oldest of seven children born to Thomas and Lucille Holloway in Jacksonville, Florida. Nathaniel chose his life's course in service to his country. He attended ROTC at famed Tuskeegee University placing him in the proud and historic ranks of the Tuskeegee Airmen. Majoring in electronics, he applied those skills in the United States Air Force as an electronics/avionics officer. While at Tuskeegee, Nathaniel would occasionally apply his expertise performing various electrical repairs at nearby Alcorn University where he met Ruby Dell Eiland the love of his live. The two were married in 1953 and together they experienced the world in locations such as Korea, Japan, Portugal and Panama as well as stateside assignments at Keesler AFB, MS, Ortis AFB, MA, and finally Kirtland AFB, NM, growing their family of five children along the way. Nathaniel achieved the rank of Lt. Colonel in the Air National Guard. After retiring in 1972 he earned an MBA at the University of New Mexico. Nathaniel loved cars and loved to drive. So much in fact that the family drove from Panama through Central America to Albuquerque, NM for retirement. Nathaniel's greatest love was his family. He doted on his children and especially his grand children. He was indeed the ultimate family man and mentor giving to us, his family both biological and "acquired", strong values, invaluable mentorship, and treasured council. Nathaniel is survived by siblings; sisters, Johnnie B. Scott, Barbera Geiger, Joyce Montgomery and husband Joseph, Sandra Holloway Cook and husband Sam, and brother, Thomas Holloway and wife Eunice. His beloved children; Dr. Ruby Lucille Holloway and husband Dr. Ronald Montgomery, Dr. Nathaniel Lorenzo Holloway, Jr. and wife Veritta, Patrick Alvin Holloway and wife Khishna and Carolyn Elaine Holloway and husband Michael Herndon; grandchildren, Ruby Reinelle Holloway-Montgomery, Rebekah Jeanne Holloway-Montgomery, Ronald Alexander Holloway-Montgomery (RJ), Nathaniel Lorenzo Holloway III, Trenton Hunter Holloway, Marilyn Tatum Holloway, Samara Rubyanna Holloway, Patrick Alvin Holloway Jr. (PJ), Alexandrea Joi Holloway-Herndon and Deejdrick Nathaniel Holloway-Herndon. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruby Dee Holloway, daughter, Brenda Jeanne Holloway and brother, Nolan P. Holloway. It is said that "Life consists of perpetuating itself and surpassing itself; But if all life does is maintain itself then living is merely not dying" Nathaniel Lorenzo Holloway knew what it meant to truly live and the many of us that were privileged enough to share even a brief time with him are enriched by this life. Funeral services and interment will take place in Louisville, Mississippi where Nathaniel will be laid to rest with his wife. French Mortuary, Inc. 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE.
