LOPEZ -- Vidal C. Lopez, age 85, a resident of Veguita, NM, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2008. He was a member of San Juan Catholic Church in Veguita. Vidal proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1942-1945 during WWII as a Tail Gunner in the B24 aircraft. As a result of his courageous service, he was awarded the Purple Heart. He received his bachelor's degree from St. Joseph Teachers College. Vidal began teaching in La Joya in 1950 and retired from Belen Consolidated Schools in 1983 after many years of dedicated service. He also served as a board member and president for the Socorro Electric Cooperative from the late 1950s to 1983. He was preceded in death by his parents, Patrocino and Sofia Lopez; son, Louis Lopez; grandson, Dale James Lopez; in laws, Pilar and Leonor Ortega; sister, Frances Lopez and brothers, Herman and Eutemio Lopez. Vidal is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Cecilia; eight loving children, Ben Lopez and wife, Priscilla, Bernadette Moya and Joe Ruiz, Daniel Lopez and wife, Joy, Sonya Lasher and husband, Robert, Gina Lopez, Janel Molina and husband, Ronnie, Doreen Vigil and husband, Andrew, and Ann McMillan and husband, Mike; 22 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Raquel Ortega and Adelaida "Lala" Carrillo. All Services will be held at San Juan Catholic Church in Veguita, beginning with a viewing on Sunday, March 9, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held on Monday, March 10, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at San Juan Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Bobby and Chris Molina, Jason Lopez, Daniel Lasher, Justin Olvera and Stanley Creech.
