RAMIREZ -- Cipriano Borrego Ramirez, 89, formerly of Silver City, entered eternal rest Friday, February 1, 2008, at Downey Community Hospital. Visitation and memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 7, 2008 at the Hillside Chapel at Rose Hills Cemetery led by Pastor Mariano. The rite of committal and interment will be on Saturday February 9, 2008 at Rose Hills Cemetery, with veteran honors. Mr. Ramirez was born May 1, 1918, in Whitewater to Pedro and Teresa (Borrego) Ramirez. He was in the New Mexico National Guard and was activated into the US Army during WWII. He served in the U.S. Army from June 1941 to May 1945. During that time he was sent to the Pacific Islands and was captured by the Japanese. He survived the infamous Bataan Death March in the Philippines. Soon after his release he married Rita Wakefield, of Albuquerque, and was happily married until her death in 1992. He moved to Pico Rivera, California where he spent most of his time. He worked with the Rockwell for 30 years. He continued to spend time in Silver City and was appointed Judge at the Municipal courthouse. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, singing, playing guitar, watching sports, and going to the Redondo Beach Wharf in California. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was truly loved and will be missed by many. Mr. Ramirez is survived by his sons, Larry Ramirez of Hermosa Beach, CA. and Bobby Ramirez of Pico Rivera, CA. and by his two daughters, Bernice Fleck of Pico Rivera, CA. and Shirley Lara of Corona, CA; and one sister, Herlinda Carrillo, of Silver City, N.M. He has eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
