VARELA -- Ivan Varela was born on April 2, 1961 in Pecos, NM. After graduating from Pecos High School, he served our country proudly as a United States Marine. Ivan battled against cancer after being diagnosed in February 2003. During this time, Ivan lived life to the fullest and became an icon of strength and courage. He passed time working on his as well as the other family race cars to compete in drag racing events across the country. Ivan was preceded in death by this brother, Norman. Ivan is survived by his six children, Ivan Jr. and his wife, Kyria, Fabian, Nicole, Noelle, Audrey and AsWey; his loving parents, Frank and Evangeline Varela; His sister, Jackie Sanchez and her husband, Ronnie; his brother, Frank Jr. and his wife, Chrissy; Three grandchildren, Emma, Jayden and Thomas; several nieces and nephews; And many other loving family members as well as very close friends. A visitation will take place from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church; 5712 Paradise Blvd. NW. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
