HILLYER -- Georgiana Hillyer, 91, passed away at her home in Boise, ID, on October 30, 2007, with her family by her side. A Memorial Service will be held January 19, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Unitarian Church of Albuquerque (southwest corner of Carlisle and Comanche). Georgiana Hillyer resided in Albuquerque 45 years, initially coming to the Southwest after Red Cross service as an occupational therapist in the South Pacific during World War II. As a newlywed, she and her husband both attended UNM, and she earned a B.S. in Mathematics in 1955. It was her early experience in the Cleveland and Washington D.C. public libraries, however, that led to a 40+-year career as a librarian. She started her own business and later was a research librarian for Sandia Corp. and Dikewood, a private engineering firm. She joined KAFB and rose to become Head Librarian of the Technical Library, Special Weapons Division, a position she held for many years and for which she received an award for excellence from the Chief of Staff of the Air Force. She ultimately retired at 76 from Mission Research Corporation. Georgiana's good nature, high spirits and genuine interest in people won her many friends, young and old alike. She gave all who knew her a sense of being welcomed and appreciated. She had a lively interest in current events and read avidly until her latest years. A lifelong passion for literature, music and animals that originated in her hometown, Cleveland, OH, gave her daily inspiration always and comforted her in her last days. She is survived by her three children, Cory and husband, Paul Olson, of Albuquerque, Dana and husband, Bob Caldwell, of Helena, MT, and Laurence D. Hillyer III of Boise, ID; her granddaughter, Rita Corey, of Northampton, MA; and two nieces, Shelley Wanner and her husband, Roger, and Katherine Heintschel of Northwest Ohio. She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Elizabeth Morris; her brother, Wilson Morris; and her former husband, Laurence D. Hillyer Jr. The family wishes to thank Hearts for Hospice for their special care of Georgiana. In lieu of flowers, if you wish to make a donation to the hospice please contact Cory Hillyer, 899-8441.
