BURGER -- Linus " Lee" Burger, died peacefully at home on Sunday, January 6, 2008, after a long illness. He was born in Freienwil, Switzerland on November 7, 1924, the last of 10 children of Verena and August Burger. He immigrated to the US in 1949, and spent most of his adult life farming in Carpenter, Wyoming and raising cattle in Sidney, NE. He never married. His Christmas visits and accordion playing were always eagerly anticipated by his nieces and nephew in Los Angeles. He retired to New Mexico in 1995. His blindness limited full enjoyment of his retirement years, yet he bravely endured. He will be lovingly remembered by friends and family as very hard working, shy and kind gentleman, who never said a bad word and had only good thoughts about everyone. He is survived by three sisters, Hedy Fleischmann of Albuquerque, Lydia Benz-Burger, and Elsy Burger-Burger, both of Switzerland; numerous nieces and nephews also survive him. In particular, three in the United States loved him deeply and cared for him for the last 12 years of his life: Susan Fleischmann and her daughter, Holly Radke; Heidi Fleischmann and her husband, James Scott, all of Albuquerque; and Linda Pack of Seattle. He had wonderful physicians and caregivers. The family thanks Drs. David Peters and Jorge Sedas, as well as his devoted caregivers: Maria Acosta, Leticia Breceda, Emma Ruiz, Belle Nelson, and Carol Caples who cared for him compassionately until the end of his life. Other caregivers also helped him over the last few years, including Jack Whitt, Laura Cline, Flora Gomez, Ida Perez, and Ana Maria Mora. The family also expresses the deepest gratitude and thanks to Heritage Hospice staff, in particular, Linda Lemansky, for help in the last eight months. "Uncle Lee" Burger will be cremated in Albuquerque, and his ashes returned to his farm, friends and home in Wyoming. Rosary will be recited Friday, January 11, 2008, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE (505) 843-6333 www.frenchmortuary.com
