MONTMAN -- Myron (Mike) James Montman, born on September 22, 1922 in Minneapolis, Minnesota passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 30, 2007 surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Vernice Montman. Survived by his loving and caring wife of 61 years, Elizabeth; sons, James and his wife, Carolyn of Santa Fe, NM; Curtis and wife, Carol of Albuquerque, NM; Richard and wife, Lisa of Highlands Ranch, CO; granddaughters, Lisa and husband, Justin Replogle; Michelle and husband, Aime-Andre Simoneau; Barbara Montman; Rebecca Montman; Sara Montman; and great-granddaughter, Jules. He graduated with Bachelor and Master Degrees in Education from Macalester College and served in the Navy during WWII. He was also a 32nd degree Mason. The family moved to Albuquerque in 1951 where he embarked on a 31 year career with the Albuquerque Public Schools, which included teaching at Whittier Elementary; principalships at Sombra Del Monte Elementary, Hayes-Embudo Combination School, Madison Junior High School and McCollum Elementary School. While principal at McCollum he opened an integrated unit for the mentally handicapped. He was Director of Instructional Services and finally Director of Supply Services at the time of his retirement in 1982. Upon his retirement he devoted more time to wood turning and became a founding member of the New Mexico Wood Turners. He was an accomplished Silversmith, creating and repairing all types of jewelry for family, friends and local merchants. His lifelong love of hunting and fishing in New Mexico led to many memorable adventures with family and friends. During the 1960s and 1970s he served in the New Mexico Wing of the Civil Air Patrol. Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of his life will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2007 at St. Mark's on-the-Mesa Episcopal Church.
