THOMAS -- Mura Adkins Thomas died peacefully at the age of 95 in her husband's arms on Wednesday, November 21, 2007. Mura was a straight A student and a member of the Oklahoma Honor Society when she graduated from high school and her debate team won the state championship. Following high school, Mura worked for a law firm and for the legal division of the Federal Land Bank in Witchita, KA. In 1937, Mura married her high school sweetheart, A. E. "Tommy" Thomas. In 1938, they moved to Albuquerque, NM. During World War II, as Tommy served in the military, Mura worked as the assistant to the Budget and Fiscal Officer at Kirkland Air Force Base. Her many community and charitable activities included the Ladies Optimists Club, the United Fund, the Presbyterian Church, the Albuquerque Decedents of the Mayflower, the Albuquerque Country Club and Golf Association, the Petroleum Club, and the Daughters of the Nile. Mura was a board member of Up With People, an organization that supported young performers and sent them around the world as ambassadors for the United States. The Thomas' traveled extensively with these performers and along the way met dignitaries and people from all over the world. One of Maura's favorite organizations was the Albuquerque Little Theater. She was made an honorary member after actively serving on its board for over 20 years. Mura will be remembered by her family and friends as a excellent hostess, gardener and loyal helpmate to her husband, Tommy. Mura's mother and father were A. E. and Melenda Adkins. She was the oldest living member of her immediate family prior to her death. She is survived by her husband, Tommy, and many nieces and nephews. Services were held on Saturday, November 24, 2007 in Hydro, OK. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Albuquerque Little Theater, 224 San Pasquale Ave. S.
