DURRIE -- Jerome F. Durrie, 89, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2007. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Louise Durrie of Raymore, MO and his two nephews, Patrick Durrie of St. Joseph, MO and Keith Durrie of Olathe, KS. Never married, Jerry was preceded in death by his two brothers, Father Robert Durrie and Thomas Durrie. Jerry was born on March 25, 1918 in Saratoga, WY to the late Frederick and Dorothy Durrie (Robidoux). He grew up in Montana and Colorado, eventually attending the Colorado School of Mines in the study of engineering. Ineligible for military service due to a childhood injury, Jerry never the less served his country as an employee of Sandia National Laboratory assisting in the design for government defense initiative. Jerry was employed for over 35 years at Sandia Labs retiring in 1988 at the age of 70. Jerry was a modern day renaissance man, with widely varying interests. He became fluent in the Spanish language attending classes at the senior center, and was also a talented artist. Jerry was an avid sportsman and a lifelong supporter of the National Rifle Association. He also enjoyed going to flea markets. He was a member of Our Lady of Annunciation Parish for a number of years. Jerry was a kind soul and quietly assisted others in need. He was a lively conversationalist and always had a story to tell. He enjoyed meeting for breakfast and lunch with other Sandia retirees. Jerry will be thoroughly missed by his family and many friends. A Rosary will be recited on Sunday November 4, 2007 at 4:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Chapel. A Mass of Christian of Burial will be celebrated on Monday November 5, 2007 at 8:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church, Claremont and Vermont Streets. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. Friends and family may visit French Mortuary Lomas Chapel one hour prior to Service time.
