GONDEK -- Robert John Gondek, aged 65, a resident of New Mexico for 37 years, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2007. He was born on October 17, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY. Robert is survived by his wife, Carolyn A. Gondek; son, Robert Joshua Goodson-Gondek, step-daughters, Jerri Kinney and husband, Bartley and Melissa Johnson and husband, Douglas; grandsons, Joseph and Christopher Kinney; cousin, John Oreszczyn of Albuquerque; and by his devoted pugs, Blackjack and Bandit. He attended St. Anthony of Padua Minor Seminary and Preparatory School, Watkins Glen, NY and graduated in 1959, Nova Scotia Technical University, and graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering, he graduated in 1985 from Nova Scotia Technical College with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering in association with St. Dunstan's University in Hallifax. Robert was a veteran of the Army, serving in the Vietnam Era at Ft. Derrick, MD as a staff sergeant. He was employed by the Dept. of Military Affairs Army National Guard of Santa Fe, NM as an environmental Engineer for 16 years. In 1998, he won the top award, "The Minute Man", in the country for his outstanding performance as an Environmental Specialist. Robert was a member of John XXIII Catholic Community, honorary member of Knights of Columbus, JFK Council No. 5729, honorary member and past president of the Albuquerque Garden Center Cactus Club. Robert was also an avid toy and antique collector for 35 years. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 14, 2007, 2:00 p.m., at John XXIII Catholic Community, 4831 Tramway Ridge Dr. NE, with Father Charles Dougherty, Celebrant.
