RUTLEDGE -- Gwendolyn Taylor Rutledge "Gwen" - longtime resident of Santa Fe, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, rancher, horsewoman, avid golfer, social butterfly, businesswoman, and friend, passed away in her home on May 15, 2007. She was surrounded by family and friends. She was born in the tiny oil town of Three Sands, OK, on March 25, 1924, to Walter and Harriet Palmer. She was raised in Oklahoma and Wyoming. She married Joseph Gaukel prior to moving to Santa Fe in 1958 with her daughter, Alexis Scott. Gwen later married prominent local rancher, entrepreneur, and businessman, Charles G. "Chuck" Taylor. Together they led an active and happy life with Alexis, her children and many friends. They were associated with a variety of local and regional properties and businesses, including La Cienega Ranch, Bank of Santa Fe, The Downs at Santa Fe, Deer Valley Ranch outside of Durango and the Ramada Inn in Durango, CO, until the tragic death of her husband, Chuck in 1977. Later in life Gwen married her soul mate local business/oilman and developer Paul F. Rutledge. Who was prominent in the community and well known for donating the land for The Rodeo de Santa Fe and he procured the property where the Round House sits. He built the Loma Encantada subdivision. They shared many happy years together traveling to their vacation getaways the world over. They also enjoyed spending time with family and friends and their dearest treasures were Gwen's daughter, Alexis and Paul's daughter, Ann. She is survived by many; her loving daughter, Alexis Scott and husband, Stephen; Paul's daughter, Ann Rutledge; grandchildren, Joe Parrish, AnneMarie Stanton and husband, Robbie, Michelle Beacham, Cheryl Baca and husband ,David; great-grandchildren, Lisa Mares and husband, Mark, William Atkins, Joshua Atkins and wife, Marcela, Tyler Stanton, Michael Padilla, and Angelo Baca; great-great grandchildren: Maddy Mares, Ashlyn Atkins and Alysia Atkins; Special friend, Russ Hedrick as well as numerous relatives and friends. She lit up all the lives that she touched. She will be missed by all. There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at McGee Memorial Chapel.
