HENINGTON -- Rex Clark Henington, age 61, a resident of Los Lunas, NM, went to meet his Lord on Saturday, April 7, 2007, after a short battle with cancer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Belen, and was employed by the Los Lunas Schools as athletic director for Los Lunas High School. Rex was an outstanding 3 sport athlete and 4-yr letterman at Belen High. He played college football at UNM, winning the Chuck Cummings Spirit Award his senior year. He then went on to become a very successful head football coach at Clovis, Las Cruces High (undefeated season, State Champs 1975), Belen High, Hobbs High. Success wasn't always measured in wins, but in the way he touched the lives of many young men in the state of New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his mother, Florence; and his in-laws, Dave and Virginia Sharp. Rex is survived by his high-school sweetheart and wife of 41 years, Sue Henington, his three sons, Jeff and his wife, Angie of Rio Rancho, Brian and his wife, Shauna of Rio Rancho, and Greg of Los Lunas; and his seven grandchildren, Shelby, Zach, Mickey, Montana, Bailee, Traigh, and Ashton. He is also survived by his father, Graham Henington and wife, Edna; brothers, Mack, Scott and his wife, Janette, Bruce and his wife, Vicki, and numerous loving nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. A viewing will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel, on Monday, April 9, from 1:30-6:00 p.m. A Funeral Services will take place at First Baptist Church of Belen, with Dr. Bruce Baker presiding, on Tuesday, April 10, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his three sons, Jeff, Brian and Greg, his brothers, Mack, Scott, Bruce, nephews, Chris, Troy, Mack Henington, and his brother-in-law, David Sharp.
