POORBAUGH -- Ruth Poorbaugh succumbed to a brief illness Saturday, January 20, 2007, one month short of her 92nd birthday. Ruth's parents migrated to the United States from Sweden. She grew up speaking Swedish, of which she was very proud. Ruth worked as a secretary to a Supreme Court Justice in Kansas until she married Fred W. Poorbaugh, who at that time was an officer in the 7th Cavalry. Fred had been raised in Roswell, so it was natural that following World War II, the couple moved to New Mexico, where they eventually established their home in Albuquerque. Ruth retired many years ago from a career in real estate, a career which she combined with raising her children. Ruth's central focus in life was a strong faith in God. She constantly maintained a firm conviction that God would take care of her. When Ruth was told that her illness was terminal and her death imminent, Ruth's face lit up. She beamed and her eyes sparkled. She was overjoyed when she told us that she was going to "be done soon" and would "get to cross over." We now recall her joy, and we keep that picture of her in our hearts. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Wilson Poorbaugh together with two grandsons, Richard James Cataline and Brian Martinez. She is survived by her son, Fred E. Poorbaugh and wife, Ann; daughters, Mary Martinez and husband, Dennis, and Patty Cataline and husband, Carl; beloved and loving granddaughters, Evelyn Whitbeck-Poorbaugh, and Mikie Payton and husband, Chris; wonderful great-granddaughter, Kaella Payton; and grandsons, Frederick J. Poorbaugh and Nathan L. Poorbaugh. At Ruth's request, there will be no services. Ruth's family asks that rather than attending a service, take that time to do something fun with your loved ones. Thanks to all of you. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE 843-6333
