DOUGHTY -- Florence (Offtermatt) Doughty died December 28, 2006. She was the third of six children, first of two daughters, born to Catherine Dullea and Ernest Offtermatt. All have predeceased her. Florence was born April 25, 1920, in Cleveland, OH, and lived there until February 1943, when she enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II. She was a recruiter in Washington DC until early 1944, when she requested that she be sent to short wave radio school. She became a code operator during the rest of her service. She was stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station at El Centro, CA, until her discharge in December 1945. She also had a distinguished career at the Federal Aviation Agency starting at the Albuquerque Control Tower and then at the Albuquerque Air Control Center. Florence married Francis (Skip) Doughty, also a marine, on February 16, 1946. They have lived in Albuquerque since the spring of 1961. She is survived by her husband; and their three children, Ruth (and son-in-law Mike) Vermilion, Dr. Dan (and daughter-in-law Chris) Doughty, and Mike (and daughter-in-law Maria) Doughty. She is also survived by eight grandchildren. Teri Vermilion Phillips, Diana Vermilion Amirhamzeh, Jeff Vermilion, Brian Vermilion, Carolyn Doughty Romero, Sara Doughty Tabor, John Doughty, and Daniel Doughty. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her charm and wit, her litany of jokes, and her demand for perfection in whatever path one chooses.
