GRIEGO -- Alex Griego, age 78, passed away on November 30, 2006 at the Heart Hospital in Albuquerque following an illness. Alex was born August 23, 1928 in Vaughn, NM to the home of Serafin and Celestina Sanchez Griego. He was reared and attended schools in Vaughn. Alex married Irene Espinosa on February 12, 1955 in Vaughn. They made their home in El Paso, TX where Alex worked at UTEP as the Custodial Supervisor from 1956 until 1988. Alex returned to Vaughn in 1989. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a life member of the VFW. He was a jack of all trades and could fix anything that needed fixing. Alex had a tremendous love for his family. He was a good husband, father, and grandfather and will truly be missed by his family. Alex is preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Irene, son; Ronald Griego, brothers and sisters; Nick Griego, Gilbert Griego, Serafin Griego, Jr., Efran Griego, Flora Griego Chavez, Irene Griego Parraz and his great grandson; Jayaire Sarabia. Survivors include his children; Steve Chavez of Raton, Michael Griego and wife Edna of El Paso, Johnny Ray Griego and wife Matilda of Encino, Adela Sarabia and husband Alfredo of El Paso, Tina Griego of Vaughn, Dina Martinez of Santa Rosa, sisters; Elvira Griego Chavez, Virginia Griego, Molly Griego Kelly and Maggie Griego Chavez and husband Alfonso all of Albuquerque. Also surviving are 20 grandchldren, 6 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, realtives and friends. Rosary services will be held on Sunday, December 3, at 6:00 p.m. from St. Mary's Church in Vaughn. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 4, at 11:00 a.m. also from St. Mary's Church with Father Gerald Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Vaughn. Serving as Pallbearers will be his grandchildren; Mark Sarabia, Rudy Sarabia, Jerry Sarabia, Moses Griego, Alex Encinias, Martin Griego, Mikey Griego, Arnold Chavez, Alfred Chavez, Marc Chavez, Angel Guerrero, Eddie Guerrero, Richie Guerrero, Erica Guerrero, Dayna Griego, Genesis Stephens, Melissa Chavez, Danielle Griego, Michelle Griego and Irene Griego. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be his great grandchildren; Stewart Chavez, Nathanial Sarabia, Jonah Cazares, Alyssa Lopez, Jasmin Griego and Mina Griego.
