PACHECO -- EVA M. PACHECO In Loving Memory Eva was a longtime Our Lady of Guadalupe parishioner and served 18 years as secretary and office manager to numerous parish pastors and deacons, one of whom was her husband of 57 years, Deacon Carlos F. Pacheco, ordained in 1973. Prior to serving in the church alongside her husband, Eva retired from the State Department of Health after 33 years. Over many years, Eva was committed to assist those in need to include the longtime care of her mother, Eloisa and brother, Henry. Often times Eva served as a liaison to sister agencies located in and around the Santa Fe area. Her extensive community work included translations into Spanish and keeping the books for the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Hunger Walks of New Mexico. She was awarded Certificates of Honor from the "Guadalupe Historic Foundation" in recognition of outstanding volunteer work to support the Santuario de Guadalupe. Eva was also known by many with her other volunteer work provided at the Archives of the Archdiocese and the Altar Society. Eva went above and beyond to help and render hope with rapid links to food, medicine, gasoline, medical and dental help. Perhaps, most importantly, thanks to Eva, help to abused wives and children was provided. Eva believed in making an effort and so made a difference in the lives of many in a myriad of ways. There are numerous certificates and letters of commendation accumulated on her behalf over the years. Individuals from colleagues and friends to priests and archbishops attest to her good soul, commitment and dedication in providing solace to the wounded. Eva will also always be remembered as the absolutely "best cook around" - and her door was always open at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Through the Homestead Act of 1862, Eva's great-grandfather Francisco Montano was granted homestead land in Stanley, NM by President Theodore Roosevelt. Eva Nieves Montano Pacheco was born on the family ranch in Stanley (Ojo de Cebolla) on March 20, 1923, and was called to heaven on Sunday, November 05, 2006. Her parents were Jose Antonio and Elosia Barros Montano. She grew up with four brothers and one sister; Jose, Enriques Octaviano, Juan Delfido, Benjamin, and Maria Candelaria. Eva was 8 years old when her father passed away on August 15, 1915. She was raised by her mother and oldest brother Enriques. She is survived by her husband, Deacon Carlos, Yolanda her eldest, Carlos, her only son, Michelle the middle one and Diana, the baby were at her side when she passed away. In addition to her four children, and son-in-law, Rai, Eva is survived by six grandchildren, Andrea, her husband, Charles, Alejandrina, Iliana, Douglas, Trevor and Vivien. Aaron Galindo is her only great grandchild. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, November 8, 2006, from 4-6 p.m. at Berardinelli Funeral Home. A Rosary will follow on Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, located at 417 Agua Fria Street, Santa Fe, NM 87501. Eva's burial and celebration of life will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2006, at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Church with a reception to follow at her daughter Diana's home, on Old Galisteo Way.
