NEWMAN -- GEORGE Dr. George Newman died at the age of 93 Sunday November 5, 2006 at The Montebello on Academy while in hospice care. Dr. Newman was born April 20, 1913 in New York City where he grew up. His undergraduate studies were at The City College of New York, University of Louisville, and University of Louisville Medical School where he received his MD in 1934. After medical school Dr. Newman worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority until becoming a flight surgeon in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. After being discharged Captain Newman moved back to New York where he had his own medical practice in Ardsley for 30 years. During that time he served a term as president of the Westchester Medical Society and was on the board of the Dobbs Ferry Hospital. He went back for postgraduate work to be certified as a Family Physician. Dr. Newman retired to Albuquerque in 1996 to be near his family. In addition to seeing more of his family Dr. Newman was active at Congregation Albert, enjoyed bird watching, and became an avid pool player. Dr. Newman is survived by his wife of 60 years, Frances; his three sons, Andrew, Dan, and Marty, their families including four granddaughters; and his brother, Nathan. Services will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2006, 12:00 p.m. at Congregation Albert, 3800 Louisiana Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Congregation Albert Cemetery.
