MANDELL -- Gerald J. Mandell "Jerry" was born on March 12, 1947 in Hollywood, CA. He passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2006 in Albuquerque, NM. Jerry was a 1965 graduate of Albuquerque High School. He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Joe and Sally Mandell; his biological parents, Don Archer, Sr. and Helen Ruth Kertson-York; his brother, Doug Archer; and sister, Darlene Archer. Jerry is survived by his wife, Trinnie; daughter, Myria; sisters, Margaret York and Mary Atkinson; brothers, Richard York and Don Archer, Jr. Gerald Mandell was a Spanish Colonial Historian for 20 years. He researched commerce between Mexico and New Mexico, with an emphasis on the silver mining district of Parral, Mexico during the mid to late 1600s, using only primary sources. During the last 10 years he and his partner, Rick Hendricks, have been writing and publishing his findings. Their articles have been published in several historical journals, including the New Mexico Historical Review (UNM Press). Aside from his personal research, he worked on the Don Diego de Vargas project - which published several volumes (in one of which he was credited as its research consultant). Jerry was an interesting and talented man. One of his fascinating talents was his photographic memory - the ability to see nearly anything he'd ever read in his mind. This ability undoubtedly aided him in his research and writing. A Memorial Service with Viewing and Visitation will be held at Albuquerque Bible Church, 320 Montano NW, on Monday, November 6, 2006 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Donations (in lieu of flowers) may be made to P.A.C.A./Albuquerque Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 21280, Albuquerque, NM 87154, 505-255-0544. Arrangements by Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th St. NW, Albuquerque. 505-343-8008.
