CARPENTER -- Sgt. Stephen M Carpenter, 26, a resident of New Mexico, completed his watch on July 31, 2006, in California. He has been called to Heaven to begin another mission. He is survived by his wife, Tracy. Also his father, Michael (and Laurie) Carpenter; and mother, Kay (and Matthew) Coleman; and siblings Gabriel, Amanda, Maeve, Andrew, and Ashley, Grandmother Helen Carpenter, all of NM; and Grandfather Curtis Ivey, of Kansas. He was preceded in death by grandfather Richard Carpenter; and grandmother Billie Jo Ivey. Stephen was born February 1, 1980 in California. He went to Manzano High School from 1995 to 1997, and Sandia High School in 1997, graduating in 1998. He immediately enlisted in the Marine Corps. Stephen earned a reputation as an outstanding Marine and an even finer person. His integrity was above reproach and he was an inspiration to many. Stephen was a dedicated Marine who contributed greatly to his unit, his Corps, and his country. He proudly served two tours in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and one tour in Okinawa. Stephen will always be remembered as "the man who could drive anything even if it had no wheels". He was known by his sparkling blue eyes and his great smile. Stephen always lent a helping hand to anyone in need. He knew no stranger. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to: Department of Maryland, Marine Corps League, PO Box 141, Westminster, MD 21158. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2006, at Sandia Baptist Church, 9429 Constitution NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112. Friends and family are encouraged to attend Stephen's Life Celebration Party immediately following the service, at 10533 Aspen NE, Albuquerque, NM.
