KELLEY -- George B. Kelley died in Seattle, WA, August 12, 2006. Born in White Cloud, KS, November 11, 1909, he started work with the Santa Fe Railway Co. in 1928, and continued with that company until retirement in 1969, except for active duty with the U.S. Army from 1940 until 1945. His military career began in the Kansas National Guard Horse Cavalry, in 1929, changed to Field Artillery, when America became involved in WW2, and included time as an advisor to the British Royal Artillery on the best use of American heavy ordnance. In 1945 he was released from active duty as a Lt. Colonel, and returned to his job with the AT&SF Railway Co. Subsequently, he was assigned to offices in Hutchinson, Kansas City, Dallas, Chicago, Los Angles, Galveston, and finally Albuquerque, where he retired as Traffic Manager. Mr. Kelley was Chairman of United Way of Albuquerque for two different campaigns, each time exceeding that charity's annual revenue goal. He served as Chairman of the Governor's Committee for Economic Development, and as a member of the Board of Directors of countless organizations, public and private, many of them voluntary. He served as Chairman of the Executive Board of the Boy Scouts' Kit Carson Council, and received its highest award, the Silver Beaver, for his efforts on their behalf. George Kelley was well-loved by his many friends, as well as his family. He was preceded in death by his wife Alice Smith Kelley, and is survived by his daughter, Maureen (Dan), Shoreline, WA, and step-daughter, Emilie Beacham of Albuquerque. A private Service and interment will be held at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral. The family suggests that remembrances may be sent to the charity of your choice.
