MARTINEZ -- Abie Martinez, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 44. Abie was a Rio Grande High School Graduate class of 1980. Abie wrestled for the Rio Grande Ravens, had a die hard love for wrestling. He started and finished his first semester at UNM when a gunshot paralyzed him and changed his life forever. Abie's struggle through life to keep going was an example for all to follow. Later in life he went back to school and obtained his Associate Degree in applied Science with honors in computer information systems T. V. I. in May of 2003. Abie's love for his family especially his nieces and nephews, was always apparent. Abie could not help but call when he hadn't heard from them, to give advice and see if they were behaving or if they needed anything. May our Lord bless you and may the perpetual light shine upon you. Abie, is survived by his parents, Cecelio and Bernice Martinez; grandmother, Lupita Martinez; his brother, Fredrick Martinez; his sister, Anna Luna and husband, Joseph; nieces, Helen Martinez and Marisa Luna; nephews, Frederick Jr. and Raymond Martinez, Joseph Jr. and Daniel Luna; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Visitation for Abie will be Friday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Church of the Ascension, 2150 Raymac SW, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Ernest Armijo and his group. Final visitation will be Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at Church of the Ascension with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 am by Father Edmund Savilla. Interment will follow at the Pajarito Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Frederick Martinez Jr., Raymond Martinez, Helen Martinez, Joseph Luna Sr., Mervin Martinez, and Clarence Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be Arturo Martinez, Phil Herrera, Lorraine Martinez, and Natalie Trujillo. Arrangements by: Gabaldon Mortuary 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW 243-7861.
