PALACIOS -- Maria Palacios, 49, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2006. She was the daughter of Luis F. and Refugio Hernandez Palacios. Maria's siblings were Manuel Palacios of Albuquerque, Lucia Palacios of Las Cruces, Pedro Palacios of Las Cruces, Reyna Palacios of Phoenix, and Daniel Palacios of Las Cruces. She is survived by her husband, Garry Hallford; and her three golden retrievers, Chewy, Allie, and Puter. Maria obtained degrees in Sociology, Spanish, and Counseling, as well as a Doctorate in Philosophy. She worked in a wide variety of fields, all of which involved serving and helping other people. Maria loved good movies, good books, and spending time with her husband and their dogs. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2006, 9:00 a.m., at Mesilla Catholic Church in Mesilla, New Mexico. Memorial Services in Albuquerque will be held on Monday, August 21, 2006, 6:00 p.m., at the University of New Mexico Alumni Chapel on the University of New Mexico Campus. When once asked how she would most like to be remembered, Maria said, "as a person who left situations, places, people, things, better than she found them.
