CARNES -- Mary Michael Mary's grievous family announces her unexpected and tragic death on August 3, 2006 and her entrance into life eternal with our Lord. Mary's death occurred while at work and its cause is unknown at this time. Mary will live forever in the hearts of her adoring husband of 26 years, Tom Dellaira, her precious daughters, Ava Dellaira, 22, a 2006 graduate of the University of Chicago; Laura Dellaira, 19, who attends the University of New Mexico; her brother Patrick and his wife Sandra, their children Susi and Elena; sister Tish Brown; mother-in-law Julia; brother-in-law Michael and wife Brenda, and dog Charlie. Friends who loved, admired, and respected Mary are fortunately and unfortunately too numerous to mention. Mary was welcomed into the Carnes family on May 20, 1954. This beloved baby was the pride and joy of her parents, Chapin Sears Carnes and Amelia Evans Carnes and adored by her older siblings Chapin Patrick Carnes, Tish Carnes Brown and Amy Evans Carnes. Mary attended St. Vincents' Academy, Jefferson Middle School, Chadwick School in California, Cambridge School in Massachusetts, and the New York Theatrical Academy. Both before her marriage in 1980, and in the years following she was a jeweler of some renown in New Mexico and California. However, after giving birth to her daughters and doing what she described as her most rewarding and meaningful job -- raising her children - she sought to engage in work of more significance to her community and returned to school to earn her A.S. degree in environmental technology. At the time of her death, she was employed by the City of Albuquerque, Environmental Health Department. Mary joined First Presbyterian Church in 1995. While serving a term as Elder, she made the life altering commitment to work toward her commissioning as a lay pastor, which, at the time of her death, was nearly complete. Mary, beloved by all who knew her, was a powerful and eloquent writer, poet, and speaker. While in the lay pastor program, she was invited to deliver sermons at the Presbyterian churches in Las Cruces and Jemez. She planned and dedicated an entire service on November 6, 2005 to honor her First Presbyterian family, whom she credited with sowing the seeds of her deep faith. Mary dedicated her life to her adoring family, and to giving to others, displaying an uncanny ability to know what was needed when- whether it a be sympathetic ear to a friend, two hamburgers for a homeless man and his dog, or, as always, her immense love. Mary will be forever and deeply loved and missed by all whose lives she touched and blessed. Services to honor Mary's life will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, August 8th at 4:00 PM. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions can be made in her name to Charitable Ministries, First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust St. NE, 87102 or to a charity of choice. Arrangements By; Salazar & Sons Mortuary 400 3rd st SW
