MITCHELHILL -- James Moffat Mitchelhill, 93, recently of Boerne, TX died on Thursday, July 13, 2006 at the Laurel Canyon Health Care Residence in Albuquerque, NM. Known as Jim, he was born on August 11, 1912 to the late William and Jeannette Ambrose Mitchelhill in St. Joseph, MO. He received a Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Civil Engineering at Northwestern University. Practicing his profession, he lived in Montana and South Dakota when he was with the Milwaukee, Chicago and St. Paul Railroad from 1936-45; in Puerto Rico with the Central Aguirre Sugar Company from 1946-54, and 1964-82; in Chile with the Braden Copper Company from 1955-63; and in Boerne, TX as Kendall County Engineer from 1982-1996. An ardent traveler, Mr. Mitchelhill was a member of the Travellers' Century Club, The Explorers' Club of New York City, and the Circumnavigators Club. In the 1960s and 1970s, he spent his vacations hunting big game in Africa and India. He circumnavigated the world 10 times, most recently in 2003 to observe the 75th anniversary of his first airplane flight. Two wives, Maurine Hutchason Karrasch and Alicia Beuchat Koke, predeceased him. He is survived by two daughters, Jeri and husband, Charles T. Riney of Albuquerque, and Janis M. Leas of Stone Ridge, NY; his stepdaughter, Michele Koke, of Santiago, Chile; also five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
