ROLAND -- Verdie L. Roland, 72, a resident of Albuquerque since 1982, died Thursday, June 29, 2006. Verdie was born in Marshall, TX, on January 23, 1934 to Ira and Eddie Taylor. She was educated in Marshall, TX, Dunbar Elementary and H. B. Pemberton High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Bishops College, Marshall, TX. She also attended Texas Southern University, Houston, TX; Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ and the University of NM. Her church affiliations were St. John Baptist Church in Marhsall, TX; Crownpoint Baptist Church, Crownpoint, NM; New Hope Baptist Church and Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, both in Albuquerque, NM. Verdie taught elementary school in the Galveston, TX School System and with the B.I.A. in New Mexico. She has been a member of the Northeast Albuquerque Lions Club for many years. Her vivacious spirit will be dearly missed. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Arvor L. Roland of Albuquerque; daughters, Sonya M. Thompson and husband, William of Albuquerque, Angela L. Avery and husband, John, of DeSoto, TX, and NaDeen F. Roland of Arlington, TX; grandchildren, Celeste P. Thompson, Rayna J. Thompson, Ashley N. Avery, Jordan E. Avery, and John E. Avery II. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 7, 2006 at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 8550 Saul Bell Rd. NW, with Pastor Dennis Dunn, officiating. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Friends may visit at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE on Thursday, July 6, 2006 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. French Mortuary 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE 275-3500
