SALISBURY -- Leola Elverda Simmons Salisbury, age 89 years, a former resident of Dailey and Valley Bend and for the last ten years, a resident of Mountain View Manor at Albuquerque, NM, went to be with the Lord Sunday, June 18, 2006. She was born on Wednesday, February 21, 1917, in Valley Head, WV, a daughter to Leroy Simmons and Jessie Phares Simmons. She grew up in Valley Head and Dailey and graduated from Belington High School. On August 26, 1948, she was married to Woodford Whitney Salisbury who preceded her in death on April 25, 1999. They had lived near Valley Head, WV, until moving to Oregon in 1960. After retirement, they moved to Valley Bend, WV in 1980. They moved to Buckley, WA, in 1985 and moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1997 where she attended Cross of Hope Lutheran Church. Before marriage, Leola worked at the Hillborn's Grocery Store in Valley Head, WV for eleven years. In Oregon, she worked at the Bumble Bee Fish Cannery in Astoria, OR for seventeen years. Surviving her is one son, Mark Salisbury and wife, Joan, Albuquerque, NM; one daughter, June Medearis and husband, Larry, Vancouver, WA; five grandchildren, Theresa Durbec and husband, Chad, Anitra Quist and husband, Jim, Luke, Jacob, and Anya; five great-grandchildren, Camille, Isaac, Zachariah, Whitney, and Olivia; one sister, Luella ("Pete") Losh; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Laola ("Bob"), Laila ("Bill"), and "Leota Lavelle ("Pooch"); and two brothers, Leroy ("Bud") and Loren. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Lohr and Barb Funeral Home of Elkins, WV. Final Rites will be conducted on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Valley Head United Methodist Church. The Reverend William Sullivan will officiate and interment will follow in the Stalnaker Cemetery at Monterville, WV.
