DURAN -- Bersabe. Mana Bersa, 103, born June 9, 1902, passed away on May 29, 2006 surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Felix Ortiz and Luisa Romero; stepmother, Gomersinda Ortiz, her husband, Dionicio Duran; one son, Onesimo Duran; one grandson, Michael Duran; one great-great-grandson, Damien Duran; son-in-law, Daniel Garcia; three brothers and one sister. She is survived by four daughters and four sons, Delia Garcia, Lorraine Burns (Jim), Luisa Duran (David), Dolores Klingbeil, Albert Duran (Marge), Bill Duran (Dora), Frank Duran (AnnaMarie), Clarence Duran (Carol), and daughter-in-law, Elsie Duran; 28 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Mana Bersa was an active member of the Carmelitas, an active member of the Democratic party, a foster grandparent in the Penasco Schools, a member of the Altar Society and very active in the Senior Citizens activities. She loved her blessed Penasco and Rio Lucio where she raised nine children, as well as chickens, pigs, cows and cabritos with Mano "Lionicio" whom she married in 1920 where they lived in their 150 year old house and orchard and farm. She loved her comadres and compadres and vecinos who shared work, joy and sorrow together as well as frijoles, papas, chili and tortillas. Mana Bersa's spirit was an amazing one to the end, and we figure it will be the same in the heavenly beyond. Her friends in heaven will say "Al fin llego mi comadre Bersa!" and they'll be glad to have her meet a Su Tatita Dios y a Maria Santissima. And Dad will say "'Onde andabas? Ya me daban ancias!". Our mother lived through 18 presidents and 26 administrations! The blessings of a long life given to her as she said by her boss, El Creador Del Mundo. El Santo Rosario will be recited on Thursday, June 1, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. with a visitation just before at 5:00 p.m. and La Santa Misa will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 2, 2006. Both services will be at the San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Penasco. More information under the care of DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, New Mexico.
