DAY -- Don F. Day, 75, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away at home with his family by his side on Thursday, May 25, 2006. Don was born on September 27, 1930 in Electra, TX, to Roy and Ruth Day. He grew up in Louisiana and Texas, graduating high school in San Diego, TX, and joined the Air Force in 1948. His first overseas assignment was in Occupied Japan. He married Carolyn V. Cox, in Tahoka, TX on April 16, 1951 and was stationed at Manzano AFB, now known as Kirtland AFB. Coming from the flatlands of Texas, they took the signs posted east of Albuquerque seriously when they read "Last Chance for Gas, Mountain Passes Ahead." Don proudly served with the New Mexico Air National Guard for 35 years. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service. Don and Carolyn returned to Texas in 1985 to care for ailing parents. There, they were active in their church and enjoyed many years of traveling. In 2001, they returned to Albuquerque to be closer to their daughters and their families. He and Carolyn were members of the Heights Church of Christ. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ruth Day. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughters, Debra Stroup and husband, Mike, Sheri Maloy and husband, TJ; four grandchildren, Ryan Matson, Shelby Alexander and husband, Ty, Aaron Maloy and Shawn Maloy; and one great-granddaughter, Audry Lynn (Sugar Plum) Alexander. He is also survived by one brother, Albert Day and wife, Joanne; two sisters, Patsy Hart and husband, Cecil and Gladys Swan and husband Carl. Don was a devoted and loving husband, wonderful father, and caring brother. He was a man of integrity, a man of faith and he will be deeply missed. A Memorial Service will be held in his honor Friday, June 2, 2006, 10:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE.
