ROMERO -- Alfonso L. Romero, 67, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Saturday May 13, 2006. He was born February 12, 1939 in Las Vegas, NM, received his bachelors degree in accounting from Highlands University in 1962 and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1968. He lived in Albuquerque for 44 years and worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 38 of those. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Celsa Romero; daughter, Monica Romero and her husband, Mitchell Elfers; daughter, Olivia Romero; grandchildren, Jasmine, Enriqueta, Delia, and Louis Elfers; brother, Daniel Romero and wife Eva; sisters-in-law Maria Romero and Linda Romero; several nieces and nephews; many cousins; and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfonso and Delfinia Romero, and two brothers, Willie and Leroy Romero. He will be fondly remembered for the love and dedication he showed to others through his volunteer work with the church and the IRS' Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Services will be handled by Garcia Mortuary, 717 Stover Ave. SW, 243-5222 and will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos Rd. NW. Time and date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
