SCOTT -- JESSIE MAE CLAYTON In Loving Memory of Jessie Mae Clayton Scott Jessie Mae Clayton Scott died quietly at her home in Albuquerque, NM on May 8, 2006 following a prolonged illness. Jessie was born October 4, 1936, to Jessie and Lucille King Clayton in Longview, TX. She was the eldest of four children. She met George H. Scott in Los Angles, CA and was happily married to George for over 25 years until his untimely death in February, 2000. Jessie's life is a wonderful success story to be honored and celebrated by those who were fortunate enough to know and love her. Jessie loved and lived passionately and authentically. She was a self-educated Bible Scholar who lived her spiritual principles everyday, with all her heart and soul. Her boundless compassion, generosity, and strength were characteristics that helped her reach across the barriers of class, age, race, and sexuality and selflessly share herself and whatever else she had. Jessie not only made sure her biological daughter received multiple degrees, she also helped financially educating and training countless others. She felt blessed to be able to help others and her family always came first. One example of her many good deeds: Jessie lived most of her adult life in Compton, CA and she would buy food stamps from drug-addicted mothers who were selling the stamps to buy drugs. Jessie would then use the food stamps combined with her own money to buy food and other necessities for the children of the drug addicts. Jessie has been told by a number of these now grown children about the difference she made in their lives and how grateful they are that she cared about them. Jessie had an innate ability to inspire and encourage many people with her wisdom and wit to move beyond their perceived limitations and to strive beyond what they could imagine for themselves. Jessie was her own best example. She was born into extreme poverty, left home at age thirteen with her baby, and through her indomitable spirit, wits, and will, she was able to prosper and one day become an owner of property on Lake Dallas and in Albuquerque, NM . . . no small feat! Jessie is survived by two daughters: Joana "Juba" Clayton and Carletta Bullock; two granddaughters: Amamari Cedar-Rain Bullock and Sara Ajabu Bullock, Albuquerque, NM; one sister, Louise Bowie; and brother, Clarence Buchannon; and extended family, Betty Davis, and the family of Mrs. Lena Mae Gilbert, her second mother, including O.C. Maples, Rev. Claude Odel Maples, Charles E. Maples, James L. Williams Jr., Lilly Gillam; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins in both Texas and California. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday May 13, 2006 at Dalton Funeral Home, 1550 North Stemmons, Lewisville, TX 75067. Burial will be held at Hilltop Memorial Park.
