BLACK -- Dorothy "Dottie" Black died peacefully after a long illness, at 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2006, at Vistacare Hospice in Albuquerque. She was born Dorothy Clare Scobel in Harwick, PA on December 22, 1931 to Joseph and Bertha Scobel of New Kensington, PA. Graduating from high school as Class Salutatorian in 1949, she joined Gulf Oil in Pittsburgh as an Assistant Geophysicist trainee. She worked in Pittsburgh until 1954 then transferred to the Denver office of Gulf. In 1950 Dottie joined United Air Lines in sales administration at their corporate headquarters at Stapleton Airport. On Christmas Day, 1960 she married Robert Black of Madison, WI in Genoa, NE and in June, 1961 the couple moved to San Francisco where he was employed with Pan Am. On the birth of their first son, David in 1963, she became homemaker and mother. A second son, Eric was born in 1969. She moved numerous times with her family and after their retirement, moved to Albuquerque in 1981. She was a loving wife and mother devoting every waking moment to the welfare of her family. Her hobbies were camping in their RV, sewing and computers. Dottie is survived by her husband, Robert; sons, David of San Francisco, CA and Eric of Albuquerque, NM; a sister, Susan Karan of Webster, MN; and two brothers, John Scobel and Joseph Scobel, Jr. of Pennsylvania.
