CHAVEZ -- Emiliana Martinez Chavez, born on July 4, 1918 in Gallina, NM, transitioned from the arms of her loving family to the arms of her Lord and Savior on February 28, 2006 at her home in Gallina after a lengthy illness. Emiliana was preceded in death by daughter, Bernice Chavez Gomez; her parents, Tomas Martinez and Lugardita Sandoval; sisters, Clorinda Gonzales, Beatriz Gonzales, Tomasita Corrales, Papilia Martinez; and grandson, Roy Cordova. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, David Chavez of Gallina, NM; children: Martha Cordova, Alice Madrid, Thelma Chavez, Sam Chavez, Ronnie Chavez and Melanie Chavez-Jacquez all of Gallina. David Chavez, Jr. of Santa Teresa, NM, Archie Chavez of Las Cruces, NM and Arthur Dennis Chavez of Albuquerque, NM; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Rev. Emilio Martinez of Espanola; three sisters, Amalia Roybal of El Rancho, NM, Abedulia Padilla of Albuquerque, NM and Isabel Sanchez of Espanola, NM. Emiliana was a life-long resident of Gallina and a member of the Assemblies of God Church, where she was very active. Emiliana was a loving, generous woman of faith, who surrendered her life to God's will with grace and dignity. She would often remind us to put God first in our lives and to have faith that He would see us through any problems, fears or troubles. She took special joy and pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was an excellent gardener and seamstress. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Friday, March 3, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. at the Coronado High School Auditorium in Gallina. A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Coronado High School Auditorium. Serving as pallbearers are her grandchildren Raymond Cordova, Steve Madrid, Patrick Gomez, Rob Velasquez, Joshua Jacquez, Jonathan Chavez and Ronne Lee Chavez. Honorary pallbearers are: Rev. Emilio Martinez, Amalia Roybal, Abedulia Padilla and Isabel Sanchez. A special thanks to Faye Salazar, Sandra and Mindy Chavez for the TLC they provided. Thank you to all our friends and relatives for your prayers and support during Emiliana's illness. Service arrangements have been entrusted to the care of DeVargas Funeral Home, 623 N. Railroad in Espanola, NM.
